Complaints and inquiries about fraud to the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) jumped 60% in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2020. To raise awareness about the risk of investment and credit fraud, FSMA has launched a new online campaign. The goal is to post on social media and Google a series of informative videos created by FSMA for various target groups. About 40% of complaints to the FSMA in the first half of 2021 were for fraudulent online trading platforms, 10% for credit fraud, and 30% for any other fraud, including fraudulent alternative investments or Ponzi pyramid schemes.
